Integrating Parallel Robots
What are Parallel Robots?
Parallel Robots are robots with at least two arms that have passive joints. These arms are attached to an overhead base. The most popular configuration we see at Robotics and Drives is the Delta configuration. Delta Robots such as the ABB Flexpicker are used primarily for pick and place tasks. These machines are capable of up to 300 picks per minute making them very capable in many industrial automation applications. Other novel applications are being developed everyday. Trends and Issues
Technavio found some interesting opportunities within the market but also some issues that need to be over come. Growth of the parallel robot market is forecast to grow at over 5% CAGR during the 2016 – 2020 period. This growth is coming out of a better offering by main suppliers and interesting end of arm tools coming to market. One of the main barriers to the adoption of these technologies is education. Many SMEs have a very detailed understanding of their own processes but don’t see where a parallel robot would fit within their production line. Since each use case is different it can be difficult to quantify the increase in efficiency for the business.
